The Former Texaco Beacon Research Facility Community Advisory Panel met on February 26, 2020 at the Slater Chemical Fire Hall.
Ed Meyer and Mark Hendrickson delivered the site environmental update. They also briefed the group on the status of the Remedial Investigation, the Mill Building sub-slab and indoor air sampling and the other environmental activities for 2020. Emely Baruque delivered the real estate update, which includes Chevron’s plans to begin marketing the site in early March. During the meeting with the panel, it was discussed that a successful buyer could become responsible for the environmental response actions at the site, and the community expressed some concerns related to this approach. It was clarified that any entity conducting environmental response activities at the site would be subject to the same New York Department of Environmental Conservation rules, regulations, and agency approvals that Chevron is currently responsible to meet.
There was a discussion regarding the frequency of meetings and communications. The panel indicated their desire to have a more frequent exchange of information. Chevron committed to monthly email communications and more frequent (possibly quarterly) in person meetings in the future. The meeting was adjourned.
